Happy Valley had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail set in the “A” or outermost position.

RACE 1: C5 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was even and the race ratedabout where it should for a Class 5. Blooming Spirit was a touch held up and had excuses, he is close to a win but needs a similarly weak contest. Overall, the winner Lightning Missile had the right run on the night and I won’t be relying too much on the form out of the race.

RACE 2: C3 - 2200m
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was quite solid through the middle stages and overall, this event rated reasonably well. Tashidelek was wide most of the trip and was very good in defeat, so he should be picking up one of these soon but is unlikely to be any spoils in the market.

RACE 3: C4 - 1650M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The pace was slow for all but one section, between the 800-400m and this race didn’t rate well overall. Winning Endeavour was backed in to $1.60 favourite and he probaly needed more of a testing speed, but was no doubt disappointing given it was Dor Dor that managed to him home. Nonetheless, Winning Endeavour has been good his last two and is close to a win.

RACE 4: C4 - 1650M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

They ran a fast first sectional and reasonably even thereafter but ultimately that set it up nicely for the closers like Management Star. From that perspective, Royal Racer was sound given he did plenty of early work. However, overall the race did not rate anything special and most of these are well enough exposed to know it was, at best, an average race.

RACE 5: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

The early part of the event was fast and this was a big win to Victory Power who covered a lot of excess ground on a decent tempo and stil produced a race-best final-200m (11.96). I think he will go up in grade and prove very competitive. Noble Man was a solid debut but he had a charmed run and might be looking for further, and more experience.

RACE 6: C4 - 1000M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

Overall, this was a rather bland race. It was basically on or around standard and rated just okay. That said, This Is Charisma made a positive impression on his debut and his closing splits were very good indeed. He appears as though he wants further but might be one to take from an otherwise moderate race.

RACE 7: C3 - 1650M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

They ran the first half slowly and the second half fast which made it tough for those back in the field. Purton controlled the pace perfectly aboard Magnificent, who won easiy, and the race rated well. He remains in the grade and will go close to winning again, while that race shape didn’t suit Zhan Jiang Rocks or Racing Luck and both of those runners can be followed. A race to trust the form of.

RACE 8: C2 - 1650M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

There were clear excuses for beaten favourite Easy Go Easy Win who had post-race issues. The pace was solid and it set up nicely for the swoopers, so there was a fair amount of merit to the win of Gold Chest, who sat close enough to the speed. Playa Del Puente (SID) caught the eye on his Hong Kong debut and clearly has some nice potential. He won 3 of 4 in Ireland prior to arriving and will be even better-suited over more ground.

RACE 9: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A"     Going: GOOD

It was a nice debut from Private Secretary, although he did enjoy the run of the race. The Hong Kong Derby aspirant is going to need to improve a few lengths based on this performance but if the race was run quicker, he might have won easier, so he is certainly capable of reaching a higher mark. Without being anything super-special, this race rated well-enough for this Class 2 grade.
