Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD TO FIRM condition with the running rail set in the “A+3” position.

The good weather conditions and racing surface meant for very quick times.

RACE 1: C4 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

This rated as the worst race on the card. The race shape made it hard for those from too far back to get in to the race and our play, Eight Trigrams had every possible chance, he clearly peaked on his run in the final-200m. Maybe he neeed the outing but I am not sure he will find an easier assignment.

RACE 2: C4 - 1200m
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was solid here and it was a nice win to Quadruple Double who only received 7-points in the handicap and based on that penalty, he can win again in the grade (Class 4). Debutant Wood On Fire (SID) created a positive impression on his first start and with a final-400m of 22.39 is worth following when he next appears. Momentum Happy ran the best final-200m again but he is still learning his craft. There is ability there but his pre-race antics and ‘race smarts’ aren’t quite there yet.

RACE 3: Group 3 - 1000M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

A sit and sprint but overall some serious numbers were posted by Full Of Beauty in winning this event. He might be on the heels of the best sprinters in Hong Kong based on this win, without weight adjustments, so he still has to take the next step, but he was very good. This race rated best of the day. Jolly Banner ran an incredible final-400m but needed more pace early, along with the luckless Wishful Thinker.

RACE 4: C4 - 1600M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The first sectional was slowly run, but then the pace picked up noticeably, which made the win of Smart Patch even better. He found form at the end of last season and now with back-to-back wins might be one to follow up in grade. He will be competitive in Class 3. Savvy Seven (SID) somehow got a drop in grade for finishing third in the event and will be too good for Class 5.

RACE 5: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

Literally a race of two halves. The tempo was very moderate for the first-600m, which helped Ezra as he doesn’t have much early speed. The first three on the turn were the first three home (not in that order). Speedy Luck was three-wide the trip and closed quite well, so his effort to run fourth had some merit.

RACE 6: C3 - 1800M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

The pace was quite genuine throughout and this rated well. Clearly, Chefano would have won with a clear run and Splendour And Gold was also very unlucky. Chefano was in our SID file and he will stay there. I Do probably had his chance but remains in form and should pick up a similar contest.

RACE 7: Group 3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

A new track record was run here and it was an outstanding win to Beauty Generation with top weight. Incredible really… The pace picked up from the 600m which helped his cause. Waikuku is up to this class and with a final-400m (21.78) in good time, he will continue to run well. Southern Legend also closed nicely. Hard to see anything beating Beauty Generation this term considering he gave most 9kg and was still far too good.

RACE 8: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

This rated as the third-best race on the card. Mr Croissant was pestered in the lead but luckily had enough up his sleeve and proved too good. Mr Aldan (SID) is worth following, especially over further. He posted the 10th-best final-200m (11.08) at the meeting and ran very well, but he might want 1800m and beyond.

RACE 9: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

A very steady first-600m of the race and the pace picked up noticeably from the 800m mark. The winner, Super Star returned with ‘blood in the trachea’ so there was added merit to the win. Alcari closed well but of all of these, the winner arguably has the most upside and the one I think we should follow. The form should work out quite well from this event.

RACE 10: C2 - 1200M
Course: TURF "A+3"     Going: GOOD TO FIRM

Around standard time was run for the first two sectionals and the final-400m was quick. The anticipated pace wasn’t there and they would have been much better leading on Aethero but there was an incident at the start and he had clear excuses. Fat Turtle was good, but California Whip (SID) was back wide and closed exceptionally well, an 11.02 (9th-best at meeting).
