Sha Tin had a turf track presented in GOOD condition with the running rail set in the “B+2” position.

The races on the AWT (dirt) track were run on a surface rated WET SLOW.

There was misty rain through out the day which affected the dirt, but only had minor affect on the turf.

Joao Moreira was unwell and didn’t ride.

RACE 1: GRIFFIN - 1400m
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

The overall time was well outside of standard but in relative terms this Griffin event was more or less like a standard Class 4 event. In time, a few of these will be winning better races. Rich And Lucky can compete in Class 4 and can be followed in that grade even though he still has a bit to learn. He definitely needs cover and probably to draw a low gate in the short term.

RACE 2: C5 - 1650m
Course: AWT     Going: WET SLOW

The all-weather track was rain-affected and rated ‘wet-slow’. The pressure was on early here, with a steadying from the 800-400m and that helped to suit the swoopers. Considering the conditions etc, I’m not sure how much is worth taking from this event. Suffice to say that Super Red Dragon was the best of those ‘on-pace’ and is worth sticking with.

RACE 3: C4 - 1200M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

This was the worst race of the day but may have been the hardest one to adjust as well given the conditions at this point. Daily Beauty (SID) makes the file, as he was negatively ridden from the outside gate but rattled home in a solid 22.84 final-400m, which was the equal 7th-best at the meeting. It was an eye-catching run. Fortune Brilliant won nicely on debut and Hero Star was sound as well. So whilst the race didnt rate overly highly, there did appear to be some progressive types involved.

RACE 4: C4 - 1650M
Course: AWT     Going: WET SLOW

The pace was strong in this event and it rated well. Best Alliance (SID) clearly should have won and he remains in the grade, so he can win in the short term but I would prefer him on this surface. And the final-400m (23.52) of Foodie Princess was excellent, and it shouldn’t be too long before he wins a race.

RACE 5: C3 - 1200M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

The pace seemed quite solid here and the final sectional was very slow, yet the back markers didn’t get in to it. This race rated reasonably well, but Infinity Endeavour (SID) is the one I would like to follow. He was given no chance, and basically was just having a look around in this event. With more intent next time, he can win.

RACE 6: C4 - 1400M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

Another very slow final sectional was set here, but the early pace was solid. Overall, with that tempo the race rated pretty well. Once again, it was a solid run in defeat by Fantastic Show. I don’t know why they conitnue to persist over 1400m, he is clearly looking for further and is ready to win. Winning Together has now put two reasonable runs together but hasn’t been found in the market. Care Free Prince was very brave given the suicidal tempo he set and MIghty Giant okay winning.

RACE 7: Group 3 - 1000M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

Given the conditions this was a very high rating performance which puts Big Party on the heels of the best sprinters in Hong Kong. It was a standout performance on the day, somewhat tempered by the fact it was the only straight race and they were on fresh ground. However, based on this effort, Big Party is going to be competitive at G1 level.

RACE 8: C3 - 1400M
Course: TURF "B+2"     Going: GOOD

The pace increased in the middle stages, which should have set it up for the chasers but under the conditions, they were finding it difficult to reel them in. The time here was similar to the Class 4 race where they went fast, and it rated okay. Such A Happiness, being a back marker wasn’t suited with the pace increase through the middle stages and ran well. He will strip fitter and can be followed. Mongolian King was excellent, he sat three-wide with no cover and worked strongly to the line. He makes the SID file and should find a race in Class 3.

RACE 9: C2 - 1650M
Course: AWT     Going: WET SLOW

This race rated pretty well and the tempo was solid enough throughout, although I feel Buddies should have gone faster with his light weight. Elusive State was enormous, he was hampered early and then covered ground and the winner was just given a peach of a ride and had the drop on him. I’m not sure what to make of the run of Playa Del Puente. He was off the track all the way and looked beaten on the turn, only to deliver the 3rd-best final-200m. He deserves another chance.

RACE 10: C3 - 1650M
Course: AWT     Going: WET SLOW

Nothing too much can learned from this race except there are some fools who let the leader and eventual winner Last Kingdom get away with these sectionals off the front. It is very unusual to see such a slow pace. However, Righteous Doctrine (SID) has been on our list and had no favours whatsoever and is simply ready to win.
